Experiential Learning

A Penn State student sits cross-legged on a sidewalk as she talks to a man while working with a street medicine team in Los Angeles.
A first-of-its-kind Penn State course provides students an immersive educational experience on the streets of Los Angeles, when a class of Penn State students closed out the spring semester embedded with street medicine teams from the University of Southern California. Connection to Community and Impact

Experiential learning through Penn State Outreach integrates teaching, research, and service into transformative experiences for students in every discipline. Guided by Penn State’s goals and Outreach’s strategic plan, we expand internships, community-based projects, applied research, and public impact initiatives that address real challenges and deliver meaningful results.

Our approach strengthens Pennsylvania’s economy, deepens partnerships with local and global organizations, and equips graduates with the skills, mindsets, and adaptability needed for lifelong success. By leveraging our vast network and legacy of service, we ensure that every Penn State student—no matter where they study—has the opportunity to engage, contribute, and lead.
