Cyber Security Boot Camp (Entering grades 10–12)
June 15–17, 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

This camp will introduce some basic concepts in computer security, such as:
— networking concepts
— password management
— computer forensics
— firewalls
— wireless LAN security
Hands-on exercises will introduce you to many different types of career opportunities in the exciting field of computer security. Through the camp activities, you can learn how to defend your computer systems against various types of security threats. Prior experience with computers and computer networking is helpful but not required. Lunch is included.

Web Design: The Technology Age (Entering grades 7–10)
June 29–July 3, 9:00 a.m.–noon

Did you know that Web design is one of the fastest-growing career fields? Having knowledge of page building is not only useful for future jobs, it’s FUN! In this camp you can learn the basics of HTML and creating a Web page. Set your MySpace or Facebook apart from the others by making your own graphics and uploading them to your page. No previous experience is needed. This camp will also focus on the SAFE way to manage your Web sites and the information on them.

Law Careers: You Be the Judge (Entering grades 7–10)
July 6–10, 9:00 a.m.–noon

Take on the role of an attorney and advise hypothetical clients; participate in several mock court trials and take turns playing the role of defense attorney, defendant, witness, prosecuting attorney, judge, and juror. In addition, participants will examine famous court cases in history and engage in discussions of current cases in the media. This camp also includes a field trip to the courthouse and/or jail.

Firefighting Training: Junior Fire Marshall (Entering grades 6–8)
July 6–10, 9:00 a.m.–noon

Firefighting can be an exciting and dangerous career. In this camp, you can learn fire fighting skills under the direct supervision of skilled professional firefighters. Camp activities will both challenge and encourage you. Each day campers will look at a different discipline of today’s fire service.

Weather Wonders (Entering grades 6–10)
July 13–17, 9:00 a.m.–noon
Instructor: Joe Murgo
Cost: $80

Learn about weather forecasting and what causes severe weather, such as hurricanes, tornadoes, snowstorms, and heat waves, from WTAJ-TV’s head meteorologist, Joe Murgo. Campers will make and read weather maps, study weather on their own, and identify severe weather. At the conclusion of the week, participants will have an opportunity to make their own weather presentation during a field trip to the Access Channel.

Culinary Arts (Entering grades 6–10)
Camp conducted at the Altoona Area High School
July 20–24, 9:00 a.m.–noon

Do you want to learn to cook? Do you dream of becoming a chef? In this camp you’ll experiment with new foods that can be easily prepared, and have fun creating and eating your delectable dishes. The camp will begin at the supermarket and end at the dinner table. Participants will explore healthy eating and weight control, while learning techniques to prepare foods that are fun and tasty.

Entrepreneurship: Jump-start (Entering grades 10–12)
July 20–23, 9:00 a.m.1:00 p.m.
Instructor: Donna Bon
Cost: $50 
Do you dream of starting your own business? If so, entrepreneurship camp can be the first step to help you make your dream a reality.

Some of the camp topics will include:
— sales and customer service
— legal, financial, and accounting issues
— marketing
— proposal development and presentation
The camp will culminate in a business development competition in which teams present their ideas to a corporate client. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team, and certificates of completion will be issued at the end of the program.
