Faculty-led, world-focused
Penn State faculty-led programs offer students the guidance of trusted faculty, with the freedom to explore the world. Our faculty will create the ideal itinerary for you.
This study tour will introduce students to ancient Egypt—its history, art, and archaeology—through visits to the monuments themselves to see the antiquities in
their original contexts. The tour will be wide-ranging and include the pyramids of Giza, Saqqara, and Dahshur; the Cairo museum; Alexandria; the glories of Luxor, Karnak, and the
Valley of the Kings; Aswan; the Delta; Tanis (of Raiders of the Lost Ark fame); and the Suez Canal. Lectures and informal talks by Dr. Donald Redford and Dr. Susan
Redford will fill in the tour with all the information the students require.
Accommodations will be in four- and five-star hotels, including Shepherds, Ramada, Sonesta, and Mövenpick, and transportation will be by air-conditioned bus and (to Luxor) by EgyptAir. Hotels and restaurants offer a wide variety of cuisine; one can find Egyptian, European, and American styles. Fast-food outlets (McDonald's, KFC, Pizza Hut, etc.) are found in the major cities. Egyptians are a friendly and hospitable people, who are known for making foreigners feel welcome. This will be an exciting, comfortable, and informative tour.
