Top 10 Reasons to Study Abroad
Faculty-led, world-focused
Penn State faculty-led programs offer students the guidance of trusted faculty, with the freedom to explore the world. Our faculty will create the ideal itinerary for you.
This 3- or 6-credit study tour (CAMS/JST/RL ST 012; CAMS/JST 499) explores the archaeology of the Levant and biblical Israel from the rise of urbanization (ca. 3200 BCE) to the emergence of ancient Israel (ca. 1200 BCE), through the Second Temple and Roman periods, concluding with the development of the region as the “Holy Land” for Jews, Christians, and Muslims. Students will visit key archaeological, historical, and heritage sites, including Megiddo/Armageddon, Beth Shean/Scythopolis, Golan and Galilee, Jerusalem, Masada, En Gedi, and the Dead Sea. This study tour takes place following the Tel Akko archaeological summer field school. CAMS/JST/RL ST 012 fulfills CAMS major, GH, and IL requirements. Independent study credit is possible with the permission of the instructor.
The study tour is led by Dr. Ann Killebrew, a Penn State faculty member and an archaeologist who has directed field projects in Turkey and Israel.
Accommodations: Participants in the Israel study tour will reside in the Akko Nautical Academy, youth hostels, or three-star hotels (half-board), with two to three students per room. Lunches are not included in the fees.
For information regarding participation in the Israel Study Tour for 2012, please contact Professor Ann E. Killebrew at aek11@psu.edu.
