Native Plant Celebration and Sale

Shaver’s Creek is excited to partner with the Pennsylvania Native Plant Society (PNPS) this year to host their annual Native Plant Celebration and Sale. This year we will celebrate the interrelationships between native plants and our resident bird species with the combination of the Plant Sale and our 24-hour Birding Cup fundraiser on the same weekend. A portion of the proceeds from the Native Plant Sale will also go to support Shaver’s Creek.

Plant sale attendees can also support Shaver's Creek by:

– Donating to their favorite Birding Cup team

– Purchasing $10 raffle tickets to win a pair of Nikon Action 7x35 binoculars

Going Native in Your Backyard: An Indoor Slide Presentation (lower classroom)
By Liz McDowell, Maryland Native Plant Society

Switching to native plants and using conservation landscaping techniques is crucial to the long-term health of the environment. As habitat is lost and exotic species invade the most wild and rural areas of our region, gardeners can play a key role in maintaining regional biodiversity. This presentation will highlight the many native alternatives to the exotic invasive plants commonly used for landscaping in western Maryland. Discover the connection between native plants, wildlife, and people. Enhance and preserve regional biodiversity by simply 'going native.'
noon Guided Plant Walk: Tour of the Shaver’s Creek Gardens and Landscape
Led by Eric Burkhart, Plant Science Program Director with Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center
1:00 p.m. Plants: The Roots of Life: A Guided Plant Walk for Children/Families
Led by Joan Turns, School Programs Director with Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center
