Hours
Shaver's Creek is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day from February 1 to December 15 except Thanksgiving Day; closed mid-December through January. Contact us for more information.
Entrance Fee
There is no fee to enter. Guests are welcome to give a donation in one of our donation boxes to support our mission of helping people achieve and maintain harmony with the natural world.
Directions
Shaver's Creek Environmental Center is located in the Stone Valley Recreation Area. It is exactly 12 miles south of downtown State College, about halfway between State College and Huntingdon.
From State College:
- Proceed on Route 26 (College Avenue) south out of State College for six miles to the town of Pine Grove Mills.
- At the blinking light in Pine Grove Mills, turn left and continue on Route 26 over Tussey Ridge. (Stop to enjoy the view from Jo Hays Vista at the top.)
- As you descend down the south side of the ridge, two miles from the top of the ridge, you will see blue road signs on the right for Stone Valley Recreation Area and Shaver's Creek Environmental Center.
- Turn right onto Charter Oak Road, in the direction of Mooresville.
- From the turn off of Route 26 onto Charter Oak Road, continue 1.8 miles until you see another blue road sign directing you to East Entrance of Stone Valley Recreation Area to Shaver's Creek. A large, stone sign on Charter Oak Road just past the entrance welcomes you to Stone Valley and Shaver's Creek.
- Turn left onto Red Rose Road into the East Entrance to Stone Valley and Shaver's Creek Environmental Center.
- Travel approximately one-quarter mile to a fork in the road. Bear right onto Discovery Road, through the wooden archway.
- Follow the signs to the parking areas. Trails from the parking areas lead to the center.
From Huntingdon:
- Follow Route 26 north for fifteen miles, passing through McAlevy's Fort, bearing left to continue on north Route 26.
- Continue another six miles, passing the Whipple Dam Store on the right.
- Approximately one mile beyond the Whipple Dam Store, Route 26 begins ascending the south side of Tussey Ridge.
- Look for a blue Shaver's Creek road sign on the right side of the road.
