Each fall Shaver's Creek hosts an Elderhostel program on birding. Please check this site each summer for information on that year's fall dates.
Course Description
Join us for a week of great birds and engaging company—an unforgettable adventure! During a week of autumn splendor, you can observe fall bird migration at its best and learn bird-watching basics such as field identification, bird behavior, common call notes, and natural history. In leisurely hikes through the pine forests, open meadows, and high summits of central Pennsylvania, you will see a range of diverse habitats as we look for songbirds, raptors, and even migrating monarchs. Get up close and personal with owls, hawks, falcons, and eagles at Penn State's unique Raptor Center. The program will be hosted and led by the personable and passionate field birders and naturalists at Shaver's Creek Environmental Center, Penn State's nature resource.
Course Fees
The course fees will cover all instruction, meals, and accommodations. Please note: One dinner will be on your own to enjoy at a local restaurant. The commuter fees will cover all instruction, most dinners, and all lunches.
