Coquese Washington is in her first season as the Lady Lions’ head coach, becoming only the fifth head coach in the program’s history. Washington recently completed eight seasons as an assistant, two as an associate head coach, at Notre Dame. During that time, Notre Dame amassed eight NCAA Tournament appearances, including four Sweet Sixteens and a National Championship in 2001. As a player, Washington was a four-year starting point guard for the Fighting Irish, who led Notre Dame to three MCC Tournament titles. She continued her playing career in the WNBA, playing for the New York Liberty, the Houston Comets, and the Indiana Fever. Washington juggled her WNBA career while finishing a law degree from the Notre Dame Law School. Itoro Coleman is in her first season as an assistant coach after spending the past four seasons as an assistant at Clemson University. Prior to her position at Clemson, she served as an assistant coach at Butler and as a student assistant at Liberty University. As a player for Clemson, Coleman was a three-time All-ACC performer who led the team to two ACC Tournament championships. She continued her career in the WNBA, playing for the Indiana Fever and the Houston Comets. Coleman also played in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, where she captained the Nigeria National Team to its first-ever Olympic win. She currently serves as the recruiting coordinator and is the guards coach for the Lady Lions. Kia Damon is in her first season for the Lady Lions after serving five seasons at the University of Massachusetts, where she was the recruiting coordinator. Damon also spent three seasons at Fairleigh Dickinson as an assistant, and two years at Wisconsin—Green Bay. As a player, she led Millersville (Pa.) University to two PSAC Tournaments. Damon is primarily responsible for coaching the wing players, as well as assisting with recruiting. Maren Walseth returns to her alma mater after three seasons as an assistant coach at the United States Naval Academy. She will serve as the summer camp director and will work primarily with the post players. As a player at Penn State, Walseth was a key member of the Lady Lion team that advanced to the 2000 NCAA Final Four. During her career she was a two-time All-Big Ten first team member. After graduation, Walseth spent four seasons in the professional ranks—two seasons in the WNBA and two seasons playing overseas.
