Referee Information

The Happy Volley Club Championships and Camp would like to welcome all officials working this year’s tournament. The following information is to help you get around during the weekend, along with some scheduled activities that we have set up for you. **While in PAVO camp, all PAVO campers must be in standard official’s uniform. Those referees not involved in the camp may wear navy blue shorts, a white shirt, white socks, and white shoes.

Housing

All officials will be staying in Nittany Hall during the tournament. Check-in will take place on May 27 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Nittany Hall. If you are checking in on Thursday or after 6:00 p.m. on Friday, you will need to check in at the Nittany Community Center. The Nittany Community Center hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. They will issue your room key and parking permit there. Bedding and towels will be provided.

Meals

At check-in you will be issued a meal card for breakfast for the mornings you will be staying in Nittany Hall. All breakfast meals will take place in Findlay Dining Hall in East Halls and will be served from 6:00 to 10:00 a.m. We will also be providing you with meals at various playing sites throughout the day. We will have a light breakfast, lunch, and dinner in all of these locations with food and drink being provided all day.

Meetings

Two meetings will take place on Friday night. From 7:00 to 9:45 p.m., PAVO will hold a meeting for the officials involved in the referee’s camp. The PAVO Camp will take place on Courts 28 and 29 on the floor of the Multi-Sport Facility. If you are not involved in the PAVO referee camp, please do not enter the meeting area until this meeting is finished. From 9:30 to 10:00 p.m., we will have a general meeting with all the referees in the bleachers to go over the logistics of the tournament, answer any questions that you may have, and hand out equipment. You may begin to pick up your gear in the Multi-Sport Facility starting at 7:00 p.m. All of the meetings will take place in the Multi-Sport Facility.

Sunday Night Social

On Sunday night the tournament will be hosting a referee’s social in the ground floor lobby/lounge of Nittany Hall. We will provide food and non-alcoholic drinks for all officials from 9:30 to 11:00 p.m.

Directions to Multi-Sport Building from Nittany Apartments

Walking (about 5 to 10 minutes)
Make a left out of Nittany Hall and bear right at the corner of East Area Locker Room and walk to the parking lot straight ahead. At the parking lot, walk diagonally across the lot to the corner of Holuba Hall and the Tennis Center. Follow the path to the right and make a left up the steps. At the top of the steps, make a right and follow the sidewalk to University Drive. (The Bryce Jordan Center will be directly in front of you.) The Multi-Sport Facility is the red brick building sitting down in the hollow to your right. (*You cannot cut through anywhere. This is the football area and all gates are locked.)

Driving
Make a right out of the parking lot and a hard left onto Hastings Road. Follow Hastings Road to the red light at University Drive. Make a left. The Multi-Sport Facility will be on your right in about 100 yards. Make a right on the road between the Jordan Center and the Multi-Sport Facility, then the first right, and park behind Multi-Sport Facility.


Directions to Nittany Hall/Pollock Commons

From Altoona
Take I-99 North to US-322. Take the PA-26 exit toward State College. At the end of the ramp, turn right onto East College Avenue; go through two lights. After the second light, you will see signs for University Drive; bear right onto the ramp for University Drive. At the top of the ramp, stay right and proceed to the next light; turn left here. This will take you to the corner of Hastings Road and Bigler Road See map below.

From I-80:
Take Exit 161 for US-220/PA-26 towards Bellefonte; turn left at the end of the ramp onto 220 South. Continue on 220 (approximately 15 miles) to Exit 73 to merge onto US-322 East towards Lewistown/State College. Stay in the exit lane to PA-26. At the end of the ramp, turn right onto East College Avenue; go through two lights. After the second light, you will see signs for University Drive; bear right onto the ramp for University Drive. At the top of the ramp, stay right and proceed to the next light; turn left here. This will take you to the corner of Hastings Road and Bigler Road. See map below.

From Lewistown/Harrisburg
Take US-322 West to the PA-26 State College Exit. At the top of the ramp, turn left. After the third light, you will see signs for University Drive; bear right onto the ramp for University Drive. At the top of the ramp, stay right and proceed to the next light; turn left here. This will take you to the corner of Hastings Road and Bigler Road. See map below.

From State College/University Park Airport
Make a left out of the airport lot. Follow Fox Hill Road (will become Fox Hollow Road) for approximately four miles to where it intersects with Park Avenue. Turn right. (You will see the football stadium.) Proceed to the stop light at the intersection with University Drive. Turn left onto University Drive. Take a right at the second light, Hastings Road. Directions to Multi-Sport Building from Nittany Apartments

Directions to Findlay Commons from Nittany Hall

Make a right out of Nittany Hall onto Bigler Road. Follow Bigler Road up the hill to the stop sign at Curtain Road and Bigler Road. Proceed straight down Bigler past Packer Hall, which is your second dorm on the right. Turn right, and walk through the parking lot to the set of doors on your right. Enter into the building, and the steps up to the dining hall will be on your right and left.
