CAMP DATES
Day Camp Instructional Camp Team Camp I Team Camp II |
Thank you for your interest in our summer camp program. For many years Penn State has been running one of the most successful summer camp programs in the country, and I can assure you that 2008 will be no exception.
As most of you are aware, I have recently been selected to join the coaching staff of the U.S. Women's National Team. I will be serving as an assistant coach in the team's quest for gold in the upcoming 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing. I am thrilled to be able to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! At the same time, I feel it is important to inform you that I will not be able to be present at every camp during the course of the summer. However, the remainder of our outstanding staff will be present, and the camps will be conducted in the same professional manner that has become the hallmark of our girls' soccer camps. Coaches Coll, Cook, and Wilner will dedicate all their energy to ensure that you leave Penn State as a more accomplished soccer player.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call 814-867-2406 or e-mail me at psusoccer@gmail.com. We are looking forward to working with you this summer and are certain that 2008 will prove to be another highly successful year for the Nittany Lion girls' soccer camps!
Warm regards,
Erica Walsh, Head Coach

About the Camp
Penn State Soccer Day Camp is designed to provide girls in kindergarten through eighth grade next fall with the opportunity to focus on fundamental technical instruction in a relaxed learning environment. This weeklong camp features small-side games and an excellent coach-to-camper ratio. Campers receive a soccer ball and a camp shirt. The day camp runs from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
The Penn State Instructional Soccer Camp is designed to help players learn how to enjoy soccer, enhance techniques, and improve skills. Demonstrations and round-robin tournaments feature proper soccer methods and enable participants to practice what they learn. Sessions focus on teamwork, preseason training, and special team tactics and strategies. An additional area of concentration is the development of positional skills and tactical training through functional practices designed to improve positional awareness and understanding. Goalkeepers receive separate, specialized coaching as well as game analysis from experienced instructors. To ensure quality playing time, a maximum of ten goalkeepers will be permitted to enroll.
The Penn State Soccer Team Camp is designed to provide varsity high school and/or club teams with the opportunity to train and compete together under the direction and guidance of college and Olympic Development Program coaches. Each team will have tactical training sessions, technical pressure training, and match competition daily. Teams must send a minimum of sixteen and a maximum of twenty-two players to the camp. A team will not be officially enrolled without a minimum of sixteen players. If you are not a member of a team, individuals are being accepted for Team Camp I only.
Equipment—Regardless of the camp, players should bring the necessary practice gear, including soccer flats and rain suits. Shin guards are required for all matches.
Recreation—During camp, participants may spend their free time enjoying Penn State's many recreational facilities, including the outdoor swimming pool.
