Issues related to proper land use have been gaining national attention in recent years. Unresolved problems concern all levels of government. Local governments require more and more time to make land-use decisions. The decision makers include elected officials, planning and zoning commissions, zoning hearing boards, and staffs to implement the decisions. These local land-use decisions have a significant impact on a community's private sector as it attempts to meet the demands of the marketplace.
In questions of land use, it is necessary to balance the concerns of local citizens, homeowners' associations, and voters' blocs with the interests of developers, realtors, engineers, and land planners who want to create more residential neighborhoods, shopping centers, and industrial parks to accommodate community growth.
To help meet the need for education in the areas of land use and zoning legislation and administration, Penn State is offering a one-day program on Saturday, April 8, 2006.
This program is approved by the Penn State Department of Landscape Architecture.
