Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR)--6 hours, 0.6 CEU
Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR): Nitrification, Denitrification, and Biological Phosphorus Removal provides a review of the bacteria involved in nitrification, denitrification, and enhanced phosphorus uptake. Bacteria reviewed include organotrophs, nitrifying bacteria, facultative anaerobes or denitrifying bacteria, and polyphosphate-accumulating bacteria, or poly-P bacteria.
The course reviews operational conditions that encourage and discourage the activities of these organisms. Included in this review of operational conditions are oxic (aerobic), anoxic, and anaerobic (fermentative conditions). Operational measures for monitoring and controlling to help ensure cost-effective operation and permit compliance are also covered.
Important: Biological Nutrient Removal includes information from our current Nitrification and Denitrification courses. Please keep this in mind if you have already taken those courses.
