This rigorous, summer intensive-dance program is designed for anyone (18 years of age or older) who wishes to further his or her skills in this art form. It will focus on modern technique, ballet technique, jazz technique, improvisation, and composition. We will also offer several special master classes addressing issues such as stretching, injury prevention, conditioning, dance in higher education and beyond, and a historical overview with videos. This program is offered for credit or noncredit.
Led by esteemed faculty members Elisha T. Clark, Michele Dunleavy, and special guest teacher Ann Van Kuren, this intensive dance program features a concentrated exploration of technical proficiency and creative investigation. The program is designed to take the dancer to a new level by constructing an environment that facilitates hard work through hands-on guidance and artistic excellence while building confidence and technique. It is a fantastic way to end the summer and help you get ready for the upcoming school year.
Participants in the program are guaranteed a spot in a dance class during the fall semester, and will not have to attend the class placement showing or wait until school begins to
attempt to add a dance class to their fall schedule. It also allows a time for the Penn State dance faculty to be able to see you and get to know you. Since auditions are a one-shot
deal, it is often difficult to always see everyone's potential. This program affords an introduction or even a second opportunity for incoming freshman to audition.
The program will culminate in a performance for family, friends, and the community on Saturday, August 23, at 7:00 p.m., in the Pavilion Theater on Penn State's University Park campus.
