Financial Aid News
Applying for 2009–10 Financial Aid
It's not too late to apply for 2009–10 financial aid, including loans and grants. The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) had a definite application deadline of
May 1, 2009, but consideration for Pell Grants and Federal Stafford Loans is ongoing, via the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Step one: Obtain a PIN number at www.pin.ed.gov. Use the PIN to file the online FAFSA.
- Step two: Complete and submit the 2009–10 FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov, using 2008 income information. Penn State's school code is 003329.
Because of the current economy, you may have experienced a reduction in income from 2008 to 2009. If that is your situation and you have filed the 2009–10 FAFSA, you should contact the Office of Student Aid, 314 Shields Building, 814-865-6301, to discuss your eligibility for a change of income review.
First Start Awards
During the 2008–09 academic year, Continuing Education at University Park initiated the First Start Award Program. Prospective undergraduate students who are considering enrollment
through Continuing Education—at Lewistown, Philipsburg, University Park, and Williamsport—are eligible for consideration. Students who are already enrolled are not eligible for this
program. Be sure to schedule an appointment to meet with a member of the Student Services Team (Dana Aina, Betsy Esposito, Bill Fritz, and Liz Lasher) about your enrollment plans and
educational goals. Call 814-865-3443.
Continuing Education Scholarship Opportunities
Make this the year that you apply for a scholarship! Continuing Education students have recently been awarded 2009–10 Fischer Family Scholarships and FACES Scholarships. June 1 is the annual
application deadline for these two awards. Other scholarships will be announced, as we learn of their availability. Be sure to bookmark the scholarship page of our Continuing Education Web site and
periodically check for new scholarship postings.
