Postbaccalaureate Certificate in Addiction Studies: Prevention Efforts


Earn credits applicable toward licensure, certification, and/or a graduate degree. Penn State's certificate in addiction prevention can provide you with an enhanced understanding of the social, cultural, psychological, and ethical issues relating to substance abuse. 

The fifteen graduate-level credits can be applied toward a master's or doctoral degree, based on specific degree program requirements.

Locations and Flexible Access

Adult students require maximum flexibility of course delivery. That is why we've designed the certificate program in addiction studies to be completed in the way most convenient for you—through campus courses, distance education courses, or a combination of the two. Talk with an adviser to determine the best mix of courses for your particular needs.

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited undergraduate institution, or a college senior with a grade point average of 3.5 or better.
  • Students whose baccalaureate degree is not in a field substantially similar to counseling (psychology, rehabilitative services, human services, human development and family studies) and/or without substantive work experience must take CN ED 403 Foundations of Counseling and Guidance Processes prior to enrollment in the certificate program.
