Postbaccalaureate Certificate in Addiction Studies: Prevention Efforts

Improve Your Practice

Learn insights in Penn State's certificate program in addiction studies that you can apply directly in your daily practice of chemical dependency treatment and prevention.

Fifteen credits are required for the certificate. Each course is worth 3 college credits. The courses can be applied toward the education requirement of NAADAC or PCACB, and they can be taken individually for professional development as contact hours/CEUs or as a certificate program.

Certificate Courses

The certificate program in addiction studies has emerged in response to the growing need among counselors, educators, nurses, and other helping professionals—as well as persons working directly in chemical dependency treatment and prevention settings—for greater specialization in addiction counseling. Prevention focuses on the development of student assistance programs and includes course work on the guidance and counseling process and trends and issues in addiction counseling.
