Welcome, on behalf of the local arrangements committee, to the Mycological Society of America (MSA) 2008 Annual Meeting Web site!
This year's meeting will be held on the Penn State University Park campus, located in State College, Pennsylvania, August 9–13, 2008. Visit http://www.visitpennstate.org/ to learn more about the area's attractions.
The abstract submission Web site is now open, with a deadline of
April 30.
Schedule:
Saturday, August 9: Council Meeting
Sunday, August 10: Foray, Welcome Reception in evening
Monday, August 11 to Wednesday, August 13: Sessions and symposia
Venue:
We think you will find State College and the Penn State campus to be a convenient, comfortable, and fun setting for the meeting. Sessions and symposia will be held in Thomas
Building, a central location on campus that is within a reasonable walking distance to downtown and most accommodations. See the "Travel and Accommodations" link.
A welcome reception will be held at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, a minor league baseball facility adjacent to campus and home to the State College Spikes (short-season New York-Penn
League) and Penn State baseball. Medlar Field features a big screen display that we will use to celebrate our 76th year as a society and 100 years of mycologia.
The MSA social and auction will be held on Wednesday evening at The Nittany Lion Inn, a colonial style inn with high-quality cuisine and comfortable accommodations. The Inn is
listed on the Register of Historic Hotels. Both the welcome reception and social are included in your registration fees.
Foray:
Barrie Overton, Lock Haven University, is working with Don Ruch and others on our local foray. Penn State is located in the ridge and valley region of the Appalachian Mountains,
so there are plenty of forested regions nearby. We will try to put a high cap on the number of foray participants, hoping that everyone who wants to take advantage of our local
mycological resources can do so! Feel free to contact us about collecting sites in the region.
We very much look forward to seeing you.
David Geiser, Local Arrangements Chair
