Dear Music Teachers and Students:

Welcome to the Penn State School of Music's Summer Institute for Music Learning and Teaching. Our summer academic programs are changing, in part because of feedback we have received from teachers. I hope the 2009 Summer Institute workshop, "Teaching Music from a Global Perspective," will be of interest to you, and I encourage you to spend these few days on our campus retooling, renewing, and rejuvenating. Penn State Conferences can help you with registration and, if you are interested, housing. This workshop will be held during Arts Festival week, so you will find both the classroom and the community to be vibrant places. Welcome to a world of possibilities.

Sue Haug, Director
School of Music

The music education faculty is pleased to announce its offering of the second Summer Institute for Music Learning and Teaching, focused on music from the global community. Music teachers in K–12 schools and private studios who are looking for professional development or academic and musical enrichment, or who are experiencing changes in job assignment, will find this three-day workshop beneficial in many ways. Penn State faculty members and other outstanding musicians and scholars from across the country will be leading the various offerings during these three days. The Summer Institute will be available for either graduate credit or Act 48 hours—you can select the option that best meets your needs. If you have any ideas for a future workshop or course that you would be interested in, please be in touch. We look forward to having you join us this summer on the beautiful University Park campus!
