Housing

Q: Which residence halls will the campers be staying in?
A: We often do not know until a few weeks before camp exactly where the Summer Music Camp students will be staying. Rooming assignments are made by our Housing Office. You will receive this information with your registration confirmation.

Q: Males and females will be housed separately, right?
A: On some occasions we do house boys and girls in the same building, but on different floors. The floors are strictly supervised.

Q: I would like to request a particular roommate. What do I need to do?
A: Both of you must request the other person ahead of time. Please indicate your preferred roommate on the registration form. Roommates cannot be switched upon arrival.

Q: I have more than one friend that I want to room with. Can I do this?
A: Only two participants may be housed in one room. You may request to be near your friends, but there is no guarantee that the request will be honored.

Q: I don't have anyone in mind that I want to room with. What will happen to me?
A: You will be housed with another participant in the same grade level as indicated on your application.

Q: What are the rooms like?
A: Residence hall rooms include two twin beds, closets, desks, chairs, and microwave, refrigerator, and freezer units.

Q: What is the food like?
A: The dining commons are an all-you-care-to-eat buffet style with enough variety to meet most dietary needs. If you have any special needs, please e-mail ConferenceInfo1@outreach.psu.edu.

Q: May friends and family members visit?
A: Our week is packed with musical learning. Wednesday afternoon is the only free time available. We ask that friends and family limit their visits to that time and Saturday's final performances.

Q: What is the weather there like during the summer?
A: Temperatures during the summer are usually cool in the evenings and in the seventies and eighties during the day.

Q: What are the health facilities like?
A: Medical assistance is available through University Health Services, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. University Health Services does not have contracts with any health insurance companies. Participants will be responsible for paying the bill for any medical care provided by University Health Services and should submit a copy of the bill to their own insurance company for reimbursement under the terms of their specific policy. Mount Nittany Medical Center is adjacent to the University and provides twenty-four-hour service. For emergencies you should call 911.
