Concert Band
As a member of concert band, you'll have full band and sectional rehearsals daily, as well as a varied selection of course offerings, including conducting, theory, improvisation, and chamber music. Penn State faculty will give daily master classes and coach chamber ensembles.
Dennis Glocke, director of concert bands
Dennis Glocke was appointed director of concert bands at Penn State in 1996. He holds degrees in conducting from Northwestern University, where he studied with John P. Paynter, and in music education from the University of Wisconsin—Madison, where his principal conducting teachers were H. Robert Reynolds and Eugene Corporon.
Prior to joining the Penn State faculty, Mr. Glocke was associate director of bands at the University of Michigan, director of bands at the University of Wisconsin—Stevens Point, and a band director in the public schools of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.
Mr. Glocke is frequently invited to serve as a guest conductor and clinician at places throughout the United States. His ensembles have performed at the Eastern Division Conference of the College Band Directors National Association, the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association State Conference, and the Midwest Clinic in Chicago. The Penn State Symphonic Wind Ensemble was invited to open the 2005 Flicorno D'Oro international band festival in Riva del Garda, Italy; it was the first American band to be so honored. Mr. Glocke has also conducted and taught at the Michigan All-State program at Interlochen, the University of Wisconsin—Green Bay Summer Music Camp, the Point Music Camp of the University of Wisconsin—Stevens Point, the Iron County (Michigan) Band Camp, the Band Conductor's Art conducting workshop at the University of Michigan, and the Summer Music Camp at Penn State.
