Frequently Asked Questions
General Rules
- All campers are expected to attend all rehearsals and activities and to wear their name badges (issued at registration) at all times during the week of camp.
- No campers are permitted to possess or use tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, or unauthorized drugs.
- Campers are expected to remain in their rooms after lights-out.
- Nonresident campers are required to attend evening rehearsals and recitals.
- Campers are not permitted to leave campus unless signed out by a parent or legal guardian.
- Any damage to college property will be charged to the parents or legal guardians of the campers involved.
- Violators of camp rules will be dismissed from camp with no refund of fees, and the parents/guardians will be responsible for their immediate transportation home.
- It is expected that the parents/guardians will be able to be reached within a short period of time at the emergency numbers they provide.
- Cell phones may NOT be on/used during classes, rehearsals, or evening concerts.
- There is a lost key fee of $75 for resident hall keys not returned at the end of camp. Key cores must be changed when keys are not immediately returned to ensure the safety of the next youth residing in that room.
What to Bring
- Linens are not provided. Participants should bring towels, washcloths, bed linens, a blanket, a pillow, soap, and other toiletries. Additional items they may wish to bring are a camera, sunscreen, rain gear, a jacket, and a swimsuit.
- Because the resident halls are not air-conditioned, fans are recommended.
- University Park is a large campus, so comfortable walking shoes are a good idea.
- Please label all personal belongings!
Clothing
- Daily activities: Informal clothing that follows school dress code policy is appropriate for daily activities.
- Concert dress: Students should come prepared for two concert performances: Friday evening's chamber music concert and Saturday's final ensemble performances. The same
outfit may be worn for both performances, if desired.
- Men: dress pants, dress shirt, tie, and dress shoes.
- Women: dresses or skirts (below the knee or longer); or dress pants, nice shirt, dress shoes.
Final Concerts
- Family members and friends are invited and encouraged to attend the final performances on Saturday, July 19.
- When the performance schedule has been finalized, it will be listed on this Web site.
- All campers are expected to participate in the final performances and should plan to stay until the end of the respective concert.
- Order forms for recordings of each concert will be available. A color photo of the camp's participants will be available for order at the final performances.
Honors Recital Audition Requirements
- Students should come prepared with a solo piece (and copy of piano accompaniment, as applicable). The Honors Recital audition occurs during your ensemble placement audition.
- Piano/Wind/Brass/Strings/Percussion: selection from the standard literature for your instrument.
- Jazz: standard tune, including improvisation.
- Voice: art song or aria (no musical theatre).
