Area Attractions

While you're attending a conference or taking a course at Penn State, take some time to enjoy the many attractions and recreational opportunities that central Pennsylvania offers.

Nestled in Happy Valley, State College provides all the benefits of a university town - great food, a lively night life, museums, and world-class entertainment at the Bryce Jordan Center and Eisenhower Auditorium - with outdoor recreation areas for boating, fishing, hiking, and rock climbing only minutes away. Those with a taste for adventure can extend their trip with a wilderness retreat in a rental cabin. If you prefer the luxe life, stay in one of the historic inns in State College, Bellefonte, or Boalsburg.

Central Pennsylvania has a rich agricultural history, making the area a foodie's delight. The valleys around Penn State are dotted with working farms, some of which provide produce and artisan breads and cheeses for the many local farmers' markets. Capitalizing on the trend of serving fresh, locally sourced foods, many restaurants now feature regionally grown items on their menus. The University is also located in the northwest corner of Pennsylvania wine country, and there are several wineries within easy driving distance of State College. And of course, Penn State's famous University Creamery ice cream is available right on campus.

The region hosts a variety of community festivals and celebrations throughout the year, including First Night State College, the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, and Fourth Fest (which features one of the world's ten best fireworks displays). With a wide variety of things to do and see, State College is a great place to visit in any season.
