Concurrent Sessions This session will help participants identify the literacy needs of their students and arm them with specific skills and strategies necessary for success within the context of the technical classroom. These skills and strategies are also essential for success beyond the classroom in the workplace and in life. See how it works and explore what is in it for you and your students. This session will introduce session attendees to and provide training on the use of the V-TECS Connect software. This software, which was developed by the Vocational Technical Education Consortium of States in conjunction with Pennsylvania coordinators, supports training plans and training agreement record keeping for the cooperative education teacher. This session will answer your questions about co-op forms used in cooperative education, outline the qualities of an effective coordinator, and give suggestions to expand and improve the coordinator's role. Presenters will share with you how teachers in State College are using technology as a tool to foster twenty-first-century skills. They will share examples of how teachers are using Google Docs, Moodle, podcasts, and other tools to promote collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and problem solving. In addition, they will talk about technology ethics and the impact on workforce education. |

Concurrent Sessions Dale Glacken will give a quick tour of OSHA's construction standards, where OSHA is seeing violations of the standards, and where construction accidents are occurring. Charlene Ranchor Speakers will answer questions about the application of the Federal and Pennsylvania Child Labor Laws as they relate to cooperative education programs.
New Coordinator Workshop Capstone This is an opportunity to share ideas and materials with new Capstone coordinators. A small segment will be spent on internships and the Pennsylvania Skills USA Cooperative Education Logbook. Toolkit for Building Business/Education Partnerships If you attended this presentation last year, then you will want to attend this follow-up session. Team representatives from Franklin County Cooperative Education Consortium will share their successful model, Toolkit for Employers. The team will discuss the business/partner initiatives in Franklin County that have resulted from the countywide partnership among co-op coordinators that include Countywide Resource Guide development and Educator in the Workplace opportunities, to name a few. This session will also feature a panel discussion to address questions and concerns on how to get initiatives like this started in your own communities. Concurrent Sessions OSHA Dale Glacken will give a quick tour of OSHA's construction standards, where OSHA is seeing violations of the standards, and where construction accidents are occurring. Thirteen effective practices of implementing Career Education and Work Standards will be discussed. A tour of the Career Education and Work Online Toolkit will provide a snapshot of resources and materials available to assist teachers in planning and with the implementation of the Career Education and Work Academic Standards in the classroom. Crosswalks and materials to support integration of the standards into the classroom will be addressed. Participants will be asked to share and discuss promising practices. A Winning Tradition: Co-op and SkillsUSA Want to Become a CTE-Approved Program Evaluation (APE) Reviewer? During this session, attendees will share successful classroom and project ideas from the Diversified Occupations and/or Capstone courses. This is an open discussion session. |
