LETRS, Photos, Art of Expression

1. Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling Workshop (LETRS)

LETRS is a professional development program to be used primarily by literacy consultants and coaches, speech and language professionals, and teachers of reading and spelling. LETRS was developed by Louisa Moats and others to increase teachers' understanding of how students learn to read, write, and spell, and how to implement research-supported instructional strategies to increase reading success. The workshop will consist of the first module in the series of 12 possible modules. Please note that LETRS is not a reading program, but rather a workshop based on the science of reading.

LETRS Module 1: The Challenge of Learning to Read
Module 1 helps the learner understand why learning to read is so difficult for many students, how reading develops, and what is happening when the reading process does not progress as expected. (Focus: All grades)

Attendees will better understand:

  • how children learn to read
  • the components of instruction that must be taught
  • the symptoms and causes of reading disabilities

The workshop will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
Registration is limited to 90 participants. Attendance for the entire workshop is required.

2. Photos

The face of autism is your 5-year-old son or your 10-year-old daughter. It can be your brother or sister or the student when you teach. The face of autism is in the cafeteria, the second grade classroom, or walking down the aisle at the grocery store.

Please share with us your picture of a loved one who is living with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. These photos will be displayed throughout the conference to remind us of our mission.

Pictures can be posted by you when you arrive at the conference and will be taken down on Thursday at the end of the conference. Note: The National Autism Conference is not responsible for any lost or misplaced photographs. Photographs that are not picked up at the completion of the conference will be discarded.
