This session will provide strategies that support and teach adaptive self-regulation and social-emotional competence in young children with Asperger syndrome.

17. APPLIED AUTISM RESEARCH: FROM INVESTIGATION TO EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE

This session will give an overview of the current state of applied autism research and its direct relevance to the effective education of learners with autism.

18. THE ROLE OF THE PHYSICIAN IN THE ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT OF INDIVIDUALS WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS

The presenters will discuss the physician’s role in the assessment and treatment of medical problems and co-existing psychiatric issues, including the appropriate use of psychotropic medications.

19. UNDERSTANDING AND ADDRESSING THE NEEDS OF SIBLINGS OF CHILDREN WITH AUTISM

An overview of some common challenges that confront siblings of children with autism and related disorders will be presented. Topics will include parent-sibling communication, siblings’ understanding of autism, play and social interactions, peer issues, and balanced parenting.

This session will address key planning factors in the design, development, and implementation of a comprehensive suburban school district program for students with autism. Representative personnel who assisted in the development of the program will give an opportunity for questions and discussion.

This three-day workshop will provide the nuts and bolts of how to effectively coach teachers in the classroom. It will cover analysis of lesson components, teaching behaviors, and data. Participants must attend on all three days. Limit of 50 participants. Ticket required.

35. A NEW GENERATION OF VERBAL BEHAVIOR ASSESSMENT AND INTERVENTION: THE VB-MAPP
