This session will present strategies and resources to solicit family partnership and related empowerment. It will give a programmatic review of family partnerships and tactics of linking person-centered planning to current treatment models.

This session will give an overview of the process for program development and staff training for ABA-based autistic support classrooms in public schools.

91. NATURAL ENVIRONMENT TEACHING (NET) IN AN EARLY INTERVENTION SETTING
(BEGINNING/INTERMEDIATE)
Kristin Johnson, Michelle Mistishin, Danielle Vokes

This session will review verbal behavior programming in natural environments, with an emphasis on skill generalization and maintenance. It will provide video-clip examples, data collection materials, and integrity checklists.

92. PROBLEM-SOLVING BEHAVIORS AND FUNCTIONAL COMMUNICATION

Jamie Harvey and Marleah Herman-Umpleby

This session will discuss strategies for problem-solving challenging behaviors and how helping persons improve their functional communication skills can be a proactive intervention.

93. SUCCESSFUL PROGRAMMING FOR AUTISM AND CO-EXISTING MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES

The coordination of programming for autism and co-existing mental health issues in an education setting will be described.

Procedures and programs for including parents as active members of the Competent Learner Model team will be discussed.

95. PREMISE ALERT SYSTEM AND ADDITIONAL SAFETY TOOLS FOR FAMILIES AND PROFESSIONALS

This session will present the Premise Alert System that was introduced to Pennsylvania in April 2008, as well as innovative safety tools that can be downloaded or reproduced.

96. SHAPING THE USE OF SIGN LANGUAGE FOR LEARNERS WITH AUTISM
(BEGINNING/INTERMEDIATE)
Sharon Zamrin and Dana Jones

A case study will demonstrate how a student learned to make requests and label items with signs. The process of transferring signs to vocal responses will be discussed.

97. INCORPORATING ABA TO INCREASE ACADEMIC SKILLS FOR LEARNERS WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS

This presentation will highlight fundamental behavior principles that can be used to increase academic skills, such as reading, math, and writing, while decreasing problematic behavior in the classroom.

98. CONNECTIONS PROGRAM: SUCCESSFUL POSTSECONDARY TRANSITIONING FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH AUTISM

This session will present effective collaborative efforts promoting skills, strategies, and processes for maximizing the successful transition of persons with autism from school to adulthood.

This session will review the essential components of an autism support classroom. Topics will include environment, instruction, paraprofessionals, visuals, communication, and social development.
