Welcome

The 9th National Outreach Scholarship Conference will return to its place of origin, Penn State, in 2008. Ten years ago, a small group of Penn State professors and administrators created a forum to deliberate, recognize, and document outreach scholarship in the University. The Partnership has now grown to include nine research universities. Join us for a dynamic program to further advance our scholarly work in outreach.

Purpose

The purpose of the 9th National Outreach Scholarship Conference is to provide an opportunity for critical reflection on the public mission and work of an academic institution—along with the scholarship that underpins this work—and to strengthen institutional support for engagement and public scholarship.

Objectives

  • To foster debate on the public mission and work of the academic institution
  • To examine theory, methods, practice, and evaluation of engaged scholarship
  • To clarify the expectations of community and university partners in engagement
  • To explore and identify strategies for strengthening institutional support

Who should attend?

If you are currently involved in outreach and engagement, or want to learn more, we cordially invite you to share your knowledge and questions with colleagues. More than 400 people from throughout the country will attend the conference, including:

  • university faculty who are involved in engaged scholarship
  • university staff members who develop connections between the research and service missions of their institutions and their constituents
  • students or community members who are working to increase engagement or want to learn more about engaged institutions
