Staff Biographies

Kelly Bennett, Inside Sales Coordinator

Kelly Bennett joined the Penn State Outreach Client Development team in 2008 as the inside sales coordinator. Her responsibilities include uncovering and qualifying leads and providing administrative and marketing support for the team’s efforts in marketing the University’s educational resources to corporations, associations, and the U.S. military.

Prior to joining Penn State, Kelly held several positions in online advertising sales and account management. She also spent four years as a victim’s advocate in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, helping victims of violent crime negotiate the criminal justice process.

Kelly earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice at Penn State.

Sandy Clemmer, Assistant Director, Sales Strategy and Training

Sandy Clemmer joined Penn State in 2004 as a client development manager with responsibility for representing the entire portfolio of Outreach services to large regional and national corporate clients. In Sandy’s current role as assistant director of Client Development, her efforts focus on creating sales strategy and professional development opportunities for Penn State’s Continuing Education professionals across Pennsylvania as they work to develop corporate and organizational relationships in the Commonwealth.

Prior to joining Penn State, Sandy had a thirteen-year career with a Fortune 500 contract stationer. During her tenure with that organization she held various sales-related positions, ranging from account executive, focusing on creating and developing relationships with corporate clients, to regional sales training manager, focusing on helping sales associates develop successful relationships in the industry.

Sandy holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and a master’s degree in workforce education and development, both from Penn State.

Denise Gladd, Administrative Assistant

Denise Gladd joined Outreach Client Development as a staff assistant in 2000. She is responsible to the senior director of Client Development for the proactive management of the office and assistance in the sales process. She also serves as office liaison and assists internal and external clients with obtaining appropriate information about courses available online, on site, and on campus.

Denise is currently working on a degree in organizational leadership at Penn State through the World Campus and Continuing Education. Before joining the University, she was the office administrator and customer service representative at State College Agway for six years.

Rita Graef, Client Development Manager

Rita Graef joined Penn State in 1999 as a client development manager and is responsible for representing the entire portfolio of Outreach and Cooperative Extension services to companies and associations.

Prior to joining the University, Rita served as product manager for a leading manufacturer of material handling, storage, and transport products for food service, health care, and industry. She also worked as a design manager and representative for a product development consulting firm and as an industrial designer for a premiere manufacturer of architectural lighting control systems, where she developed user interfaces, products, and marketing materials.

Rita holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial design from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Tim Kerchinski, Assistant Director, Outreach Client Development

Tim Kerchinski became a member of Penn State’s Client Development team in 1999. He concentrates his efforts on cultivating clients for Outreach through strategic, national corporate partnerships and assisting with strategic development and sales management for the Client Development office. Tim is also an adjunct instructor in marketing at Penn State’s University Park campus.

Prior to joining the University, Tim had an eighteen-year career as an environmental project engineer and sales manager, working with large electric utility companies in the South (Atlanta, Dallas, and New Orleans) and on hazardous waste remediation projects for Fortune 500 companies in the northeastern part of the United States (Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, West Virginia, and Maryland). Tim was involved in a successful entrepreneurial start-up company in Dallas and helped Delmarva Power and Light Company start, develop, and eventually sell (at a profit) a waste management company in Pennsylvania.

Tim earned his bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences at Slippery Rock University and his MBA at Penn State.

Ginny Newman, Assistant Director Military Education

Ginny Newman has been with Penn State since 1990. In Client Development she works with government and military sectors.

Before coming to Outreach in 1996, Ginny was special assistant to the dean in the College of Health and Human Development and special assistant to the executive vice president and provost in the Office of the President. Prior to arriving at Penn State, she served as an executive director for the YMCA and as a municipal government official.

Ginny earned a bachelor’s degree and a master of education degree at Penn State.

David Norloff, Assistant Director, Business Development

David Norloff joined the Client Development team after spending more than fourteen years in the corporate sector, where he focused primarily on new product development. Prior to joining Penn State, David led a number of product development and strategic planning initiatives for Sprint Nextel. Most recently he served as the director of product management for NeuStar, Inc.

Currently, David is working to implement a new product development process for strategic initiatives in Continuing Education that will advance new programming concepts across Pennsylvania. In addition, he is working collaboratively with the Commonwealth campuses to introduce blended programs for Continuing Education that will leverage video-based technologies and provide flexible programming options for adult learners.

David earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering at Penn State and an MBA in marketing at Rutgers University.

Melinda Stearns, Senior Director

Melinda Stearns is the director of Outreach Client Development at Penn State. She is responsible for managing the business development group, cultivating new clients who need access to University resources, working across the organization to develop strategy that responds to external client needs, and shaping and implementing Outreach strategic initiatives.

Prior to joining Penn State in 1991, Melinda was employed in the field of marketing and management with Armstrong World Industries and was a small-business owner. She is a graduate of Penn State in speech communication.

Amy Stever, Client Development Manager

Amy Stever joined the Client Development team in 2006. Her responsibilities include working with key national and state associations and corporations.

Amy has been part of the Outreach family since 2003, first serving as an academic adviser for the World Campus. Prior to joining Penn State, she worked in higher education admissions and advising, and as faculty registrar, at several institutions: University of Adelaide in South Australia, Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, and Syracuse University.

Amy holds two degrees from Penn State: a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, with a concentration in bilingual studies, and a bachelor’s degree in history.
