| Improving coverage of health news is focus of conference | |||||||
| Journalists, editors, medical reporters and other members of the media from Pennsylvania and surrounding states attended the Improving Our Health News Coverage conference at The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel. The College of Communications sponsored the free conference, with funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Penn State Continuing Educations Conferences and Institutes provided planning and logistical support for the program. The goal was to enhance the medical reporting skills of reporters who cover health-care topics and expand the expertise of editors who make critical judgments on these topics. Leading medical professionals and journalists experienced in covering the health-care field presented sessions focusing on the anatomy of major health issues, including viral and disease outbreaks, the cost of health care, the morality of medical procedures, and research and discoveries.
