Dr. Theodor Krauthammer, director of the Protective Technology Center and a professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Penn State, led the short course Modern Protective Structures 2002. This year, the Penn State engineering short course brought 46 architects, engineers and safety and security professionals from the United States, Canada, Israel, United Kingdom, Belgium and France to University Park campus for hands-on guided analysis and design activities, case studies, simulations and projects. The program offered participants an opportunity to learn about the latest methods for protective construction, analysis and design. Krauthammer, cited widely by the news media since the events of Sept. 11, was joined by other distinguished lecturers from government, industry and consulting organizations, who contributed their expertise to the short course, which is offered annually.
