As part of a new partnership between Penn State and the U.S. Department of Defense, Penn State faculty members helped middle and high school teachers enhance their science knowledge and improve their research skills:
The Eberly College of Science is sponsoring this pioneering professional development program with the Department of Defense, in collaboration with the Lewis Center for Educational Research in California. Faculty members from the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, the College of Engineering and the College of Health and Human Development are participating in the program. For the pilot year of the program, 34 teachers based in Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom traveled to University Park campus for training. They were selected to participate in the program through an application and screening process. The program is expected to continue during the next two summers.
