Ronald L. Filippelli, associate dean for administration and undergraduate studies in the College of the Liberal Arts, has been elected co-chair of the Coordinating Council for Outreach and Cooperative Extension. He is serving as co-chair with James H. Ryan, vice president for Outreach and Cooperative Extension. Filippelli’s term runs from August 2002 through July 2003.

Established in 1998, the Coordinating Council for Outreach and Cooperative Extension includes representatives from all academic colleges and campuses and Outreach and Cooperative Extension units systemwide. The council advises the President and Provost on outreach strategy, policy and programming. Members also serve as advocates and supporters of outreach within their colleges and units.

“I am a very strong supporter of the land-grant mission and the University’s responsibility to extend the knowledge preserved and created here to the citizens of the Commonwealth and beyond,” Filippelli said.

In the College of the Liberal Arts, he is responsible for undergraduate education, planning, personnel, Outreach and Cooperative Extension and international programs. He joined the Penn State faculty in 1967 and holds the rank of professor of labor studies and industrial relations. Previously, Filippelli served for 11 years as head of the Department of Labor Studies and Industrial Relations.
