Pennsylvania Rep. Kerry A. Benninghoff (standing at left) talks with members of the Keystone Boys State program, explaining how state government operates. Benninghoff, a Republican, was elected to office in 1997 and represents citizens in parts of Centre and Mifflin counties. Keystone Boys State is open to high school junior boys in Pennsylvania. This year, 165 attended the intensive weeklong educational program. The American Legion sponsors the program, and Penn State serves as host. Participants learn about citizenship, leadership and government through role-playing, simulations and peer interactions. The program is staffed entirely by volunteers who have a wide range of professional backgrounds and experiences.
