Penn State Fayette opens classroom in mall

By Melanie Thomas

Penn State Fayette has opened a campus site at the Uniontown Mall to reach more community members with its educational programs.

The new campus location is offering credit and continuing education courses applicable to certificate programs, associate degrees and baccalaureate degrees.

“We are committed to serving the needs of our community,” Joe Segilia, director of Continuing Education and Outreach at the campus, said. “We welcome any suggestions and are open to providing a variety of educational programs to meet those community needs.”

Although the new site is especially convenient for Uniontown Mall employees, Dr. Gregory Gray, campus executive officer, emphasized that Penn State Fayette welcomes the entire community to take advantage of the added convenience.

“We found, through speaking to our community, that it would be easier for many people to complete their education through a site located in high traffic facility,” Gray said. “The Uniontown Mall employees will be able to combine work and class schedules even more easily, and Uniontown residents will be within walking distance to their local Penn State campus.”

Kelly Hunt, mall site coordinator and a Continuing Education representative, is serving as the contact person for the community. Penn State Fayette representatives also are available at the mall campus site to answer questions and provide information about the campus and the new satellite. These representatives will guide interested students through the initial steps of the admissions process.

“We want to let the public know that Penn State Fayette employees are there to help make the college experience as easy and convenient as possible,” Hunt said.
