The Center for Studies in Landscape History resides within the Department of Landscape Architecture in the College of Arts and Architecture. Established in 1995, the mission of the center is to provide both scholarly and community venues for discussing landscape history. In addition to sponsoring four significant conferences, the center has published conference proceedings and serves as a clearinghouse for landscape history projects. Daniel J. Nadenicek, associate professor of landscape architecture and director of the center, said, One of the missions of the center is to be a service to professionals and academics and other people that impact landscapes. What we are interested in is interweaving into the landscape of changing places the actual historical landscape that exists in those places. It is a broader look at history not as preservation, which tends to often look at how you stop change. How do you make change and do it better is something we are hoping to look at. |
