Dr. Daniel J. Lago, senior research associate in the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education, served as host of the University Park campus site for a national satellite videoconference on nutritional supplements. Six Penn State Cooperative Extension offices also downlinked the broadcast for an audience that included nurses, physicians, registered dietitians, exercise specialists, home economists, extension specialists, health educators and other health care professionals. The program covered the latest research on nutritional supplements and the potential role of these supplements in exercise, disease prevention and health promotion. Participants also learned about the federal Dietary Supplements Health Education Act, which regulates the nutritional supplements industry. The videoconference was part of the 1998 Current Issues in Nutrition series presented by Iowa State University.
