WPSX wins Emmys

The Mid-Atlantic chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences gave Emmy awards to two WPSX-TV programs and awarded one individual for outstanding achievement during its 17th annual awards ceremony held in September in Philadelphia.

The nationally distributed “What’s in the News” program earned an Emmy for “Outstanding Children’s Series.” Betsy Hutton, series producer; Katie O’Toole, writer/host; Curt Parker, co-host/producer; Rob Butler, associate producer; and Bethany Sefchick, associate producer, were given awards by the academy.

Channel 3’s Lady Lion basketball highlights series “Center Court” was honored with an Emmy in the “Outstanding Sports Feature/Programming” category, with awards going to Don Hampton, feature director, and Bill Amin, producer.

WPSX-TV staff member Hampton also received an individual Emmy in the “Camera/Programming” category, honoring his work on “Pennsylvania’s Route 6: A Grand Highway” and “Center Court” programs, among others.

“These awards and nominations are proof of the excellent work and dedication by a very talented staff and of the continued support for our programming and services from the communities we serve,” WPSX-TV General Manager Theodore Krichels said.

Programs and staff of PBS member station WPSX-TV, Channel 3, received 12 nominations in eight different categories.
