|
The Societal Impact on the Aging Self conference brought together health care professionals and others interested in examining how family, work, social values and expectations, the health care system and other social structures affect a persons self-concept as they age. Researchers and scholars from institutions around the nation presented papers on a wide range of topics during the conference, held at The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel. K. Warner Schaie, Evan Pugh Professor of Human Development and Psychology and director of the Penn State Gerontology Center, co-chaired the conference, which was sponsored by the Gerontology Center. During the opening session, Barbara Shannon, dean of the College of Health and Human Development at Penn State, and Ronald P. Abeles, associate director for social and behavioral sciences at the National Institute on Aging, welcomed conference participants.
