THON™ "For the Kids"
As a Penn State adult learner, you can be part of one of the University's greatest student traditions--an event known simply as THON™.
The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON™) is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, benefiting The Four Diamonds Fund, Conquering Childhood Cancer, at the Penn State Children's Hospital in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The nonprofit fund, supported almost entirely by THON™, pays all expenses not covered by insurance for families dealing with pediatric cancer--treatments, hospitalizations, meals, and even parking.
After a year's worth of fund-raising, each THON™ campaign culminates every February in a no-sitting, no-sleeping, forty-eight-hour dance marathon. In the thirty years of THON™ history, more than $30 million has been raised to help thousands of children and their families fight pediatric cancer. The 2005 campaign raised a record $4.1 million.
THON™ 2006 will be held on the weekend of February 17. More than 700 students, thousands of supporters, and Four Diamonds families will pack Rec Hall at University Park to write the latest chapter in THON™ history. For information on how you can support THON™ 2006 and the fight against pediatric cancer, visit www.thon.org.
