Libraries' Help Is Just a Click Away!
Have you ever been working from your home
or office and wished you could get help finding information
for a course assignment or research project? The Penn State
University Libraries' Ask! service is just the tool you
need! Available on the Libraries' Web site at ask.libraries.psu.edu,
the service allows you to contact a Penn State librarian
in a real-time chat session or by e-mail. It also provides
contact information for Libraries' reference desks and individual
librarians.
The Ask! chat (or virtual) reference service is staffed
Monday-Thursday, from noon to midnight, and on Sunday from
6:00-9:00 p.m. In a virtual reference session, you will
have one-on-one interaction with a Penn State librarian,
who--using co-browsing technology--can show you how to identify
and use the many journals and databases available on the
Libraries' Web site or search the Internet for other authoritative
sites. At the end of the session, you will receive a transcript
of your session by e-mail that you can refer back to as
you work on your project.
The Ask! e-mail service is monitored seven days a week with
a 24-hour response time. Many queries receive a response
within a few hours. If you prefer to work independently,
there are a variety of library tutorials available at www.libraries.psu.edu/instruction/tutorials.htm.
Penn State World Campus distance learners can take advantage
of the Libraries' World Campus/Distance Learning Web site
at www.libraries.psu.edu/instruction/world/index.htm.
