About the Course
Wilderness Orienteering and Survival is a course designed to teach students the skills necessary to "survive" in a wilderness environment. GPS and map/compass skills will be taught in a variety of different terrains. Basic survival skills, such as shelter building, fire building, food and water procurement, and finding your way out without a map and compass, are just some of the skills that will be taught. Each student is expected to participate in all aspects of the course, including the five-day survival simulation experience in the mountains, rivers, and lakes of Maine/New Hampshire. The teaching style will combine some lectures and local one-day hike, culminating in a "survival trek."Instructor
