Penn State

Spring 2009

Penn State and Outward Bound have joined together for more than a decade to offer a series of adventure programs. Outward Bound is a worldwide recognized leader in the field of experiential learning. The organization is noted for its sailing adventures in Maine, Baltimore, and the Florida Keys. Outward Bound gives students a chance to develop leadership and teamwork skills, self-confidence, and quality training in sailing. This course will combine classroom lectures and skill sessions with a five-day off-site sailing experience in the Florida Keys. Each classroom session will be approximately three hours long, and problem sets and worksheets will be assigned. Topics for the lectures will be:
  • basic nomenclature and sail theory
  • coastal navigation
  • seamanship skills
  • expeditioning logistics
