Commission for Adult Learners
Annual AwardsSuperior Service to Adult Learners Award
This award recognizes an individual or a team that has positively affected adult learners through direct service to students or improved the campus environment for adult learners. Special consideration will be given to those who can demonstrate support and leadership of new, innovative programs or services that improve the environment for adult learners. The required statements of support must cite specific examples of leadership, innovation, and improvement.
Outstanding Adult Learner Recruitment or Retention Program Award
Criteria include, but are not limited to, the impetus for the program and its originality, program description, program goal(s) reflective of Penn State’s commitment to adults, program effectiveness (including affordability and sustainability), sensitivity to diversity, use of technology, number of adult learners served, and the impact on adult learner recruitment and/or retention. In addition, special consideration will be given to those programs that exceed the expectations of the unit/office.
Call for Nominations
Please consider making nominations for two annual awards given by the Commission for Adult Learners:
- Any current faculty, staff, or student at any Penn State campus is eligible to be nominated for these awards.
- Any Penn State faculty, staff, administrator, or student may submit nominations for these awards.
- Selection committee will solicit nominations and select the award recipients. The selection committee will consist of Hendrick Conference planning committee members and at least one student member of the Commission for Adult Learners.
2012 Nomination Form (fill and print form)
Nominations for 2012 are now closed. Awards will be presented at the Hendrick Best Practices for Adult Learners Conference on May 14.The nomination package must contain:
- a completed nomination form
- the nominator's letter
- a letter of support from a faculty member, staff member, or adult learner familiar with the individual(s) or program being nominated

The deadline for nominations packages for the 2012 awards is 5:00 p.m., Friday, April 6, 2012.
Award Recognition
All nominees will be recognized and awards will be presented at the annual Hendrick Best Practices for Adult Learners Conference on Monday, May 14, 2012.
