Commission for Adult Learners Awards and Recognitions

Annual Recognitions
The Commission for Adult Learners strives to recognize success stories of adult learners across the University with recognition at the Hendrick Best Practices for Adult Learners Conference.

Incentive Grants
The Commission for Adult Learners established the Incentive Grant program to support new, improved, and innovative programs or services directed toward the recruitment and retention of adult learners. Beginning in 2012, the Incentive Grant program has been repurposed to focus on the University-wide strategic initiatives as determined by Penn State's Strategic Plans and Core Council Reports. For 2013–13, Prior Learning Assessment received funds from the Commission to accelerate the discussion with administrators and to encourage collaboration among academic departments.

The Shirley Hendrick Award
The Shirley Hendrick Award recognizes an administrator whose visionary accomplishments have contributed significantly to foster outreach and increase Penn State's effort to serve the adult learner. Recipients receive a stipend and recognition at the Faculty and Staff Awards Luncheon every spring. The award is named in honor of Shirley Hendrick, former associate dean for continuing education in the Smeal College of Business Administration, and the inaugural chair of the Commission for Adult Learners. She was a tireless advocate, committed to providing adult learners with access to certificate and degree programs.
