Course Descriptions


Course I: Instructional Design and Delivery in Reading and Math  


Faculty: Charles Hughes (lead), Richard Kubina, Paul Morgan
This 30-hour course will introduce students to principles of instructional design and delivery in the content areas of reading and mathematics, from the perspective of building effective tutoring technique and practice.
Course dates: October 13–December 12, 2008
Registration deadline is October 6, 2008.

Course II: Comprehension Strategies, Motivation, and Monitoring Progress
Faculty: David Lee (lead), Linda Mason, Kathy Ruhl, David McNaughton
This 30-hour course will introduce students to principles of comprehension, motivation, and progress monitoring, from the perspective of building effective tutoring technique and practice.
Course dates: January 12–March 13, 2009
Registration deadline is January 5, 2009.

Course III: PaTTAN Summer Institute
Governor's Institute: Data-Driven Instructional Practices in Reading and Mathematics

The Pennsylvania Department of Education is pleased to announce a weeklong institute providing school teams with evidence-based, research-validated practices in reading and mathematics designed to improve student performance. The institute will incorporate opportunities for school-based improvement planning, utilizing learned evidence-based intervention strategies. School district teams will be collaborating daily to develop and refine effective program-focused improvement plans based on school data and selected interventions.
Course dates: July (TBA) 2009
