NURS 401 Concepts of Health (3 credits)
Exploration of current and ancient concepts of health and their respective modes of intervention.

NURS 407 Drugs of Abuse and Mental Health Issues (3 credits)
Examines the health care needs across the life span of clients who have an alcohol or other drug disorder.

NURS 458 Ethical Challenges in Healthcare Informatics (3 credits)
A case-based collaboratory designed for the exploration and analysis of the ethical dilemmas facing health care informatics practitioners.

NURS 459 Legal and Professional Issues in School Nursing (3 credits)
Legal and professional issues of school nurses and delivery impact of health care in school environment.

NURS 462 Psychotropic Drugs and Children/Adolescents (1 credit)
Study of psychotropic medications used to treat children and adolescents, including indications, actions, adverse reactions, and implications for school nurses.

NURS 463 Compassionate Counseling for Children and Adolescents Dealing with Dying, Death, and Other Life Crises (3 credits)
Compassionate counseling for children and adolescents dealing with dying, death, and other life crises.

NURS 492 Emergency Care and Safety (3 credits)
A comprehensive first aid course designed to provide knowledge of prehospital emergency care at the First Responder level.

NURS 497A Autism Spectrum Disorders: Care Overview (1 credit)
This course is an overview of autism spectrum disorders including autism, pervasive developmental disorders not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS), Rett Syndrome, Childhood Disintegrative Disorder (CDD), and Asperger Syndrome. The definitions, symptoms, screening tools, diagnosis, interdisciplinary and environmental interventions, and resources for this population are discussed.

NURS 497B Bullying: Identification and Intervention (1 credit)
Explores the impact of bullying on individuals, schools, teachers, families of the target and that of the bully.

NURS 504 Pharmacologic Therapy (3 credits)
Use of pharmacologic therapies in advanced practice nursing. (This course is offered online only. For more information, or to register, call 814-865-3443.)

NURS 510 Theoretical Foundations of Nursing (3 credits)
Current conceptual and theoretical models in nursing including relationship to practice and research in development of nursing science. (This course is offered online only. For more information, or to register, call 814-865-3443.)

SPAN 497 Spanish for Healthcare Providers (1 credit, noncredit option)
This course is designed for health care providers working with Spanish-speaking patients who are unable to communicate effectively in English. The course will provide vocabulary and basic phrases related to medical care, medical history, information, body parts, and pain issues. Attention will also be given to vocabulary pertaining to specific directions and patients’ injuries and symptoms that health care providers encounter in their work setting. This course is for beginners and others who have limited conversational knowledge of Spanish.
