NURS 407 Drugs of Abuse and Mental Health Issues (3 credits)
Examines the health care needs across the life span of clients who have an alcohol or other drug disorder. An emphasis will be placed on school-age children.

NURS 457 Introduction to Computing and Nursing Informatics (3 credits)
An introduction to computers and nursing informatics, focusing on applications to the nursing profession. (Note: This course is not being offered this year.)

NURS 492 Emergency Care and Safety (3 credits)
A comprehensive first aid course designed to provide knowledge of prehospital emergency care, including an awareness of hazardous materials and disaster planning. Particular emphasis is placed on the critical thinking skills of triage, decision making, and safety. First Aid and CPR certificates will be awarded upon completion of this course.

NURS 497A Medication Update and Health Teaching Interventions for School Nurses (1 credit)
Study of current pharmacologic concepts that are relevant to the treatment of acute and chronic conditions commonly encountered in the practice of school nursing. Each unit includes specific health teaching interventions. This course is offered for one credit.

NURS 497C Legal and Professional Issues in School Nursing (3 credits)
Synthesis and analysis of the legal and professional issues faced by school nurses and other professionals and the impact on delivery of health care in the school environment.

NURS 497D Compassionate Counseling for Children and Adolescents Dealing with Dying, Death, and Other Life Crises (3 credits)
Exploring issues involving death occurring in today's world and strategies designed to help children and adolescents deal with dying, death, and other life crises.

NURS 497E School Health and Emergency Care of Children and Adolescents (3 credits)
This course will provide techniques for higher levels of care for school health and emergency situations such as seizures, head injuries, sports-related accidents, falls, musculoskeletal injuries, allergic reactions, abdominal trauma, medical conditions, and more, for children and adolescents. The course will provide participants with application-based education including hands-on instruction and return demonstration.

NURS 502 Physical Assessment (3 credits)
Advanced assessment and diagnosis of physical, psychosocial, and developmental health in advanced practice.

NURS 504 Pharmacologic Therapy (3 credits)
Use of pharmacologic therapies in advanced practice nursing. (For more information, or to register, call 814-865-3443.)

NURS 508 Perspectives in Population-Based Health (3 credits)
Theories and strategies for promoting health in community aggregates, with emphasis on vulnerable and underserved populations of diverse backgrounds.

NURS 510 Theoretical Foundations of Nursing (3 credits)
Current conceptual and theoretical models in nursing, including the relationship to practice and research in development of nursing science. (This course is offered for credit only.)

NURS 597A Promoting Healthy Lifestyles for the School-Age Population (3 credits)
Explores prevalent health problems of school-age children in the context of a family-nurse partnership to promote healthy lifestyles.
