These noncore offerings provide valuable professional development opportunities, but do not count toward the Penn State School Nurse certificate.

NURS 497C Sports and Activity-Related Emergency Care (3 credits)
This course will review advanced triage, treatment, and preparation for higher levels of care for emergency situations such as seizures, head injuries, sports-related accidents, falls, musculoskeletal injuries, allergic reactions, abdominal trauma, and more.

NURS 497B Compassionate Counseling for Life Events (3 credits)
Exploring issues involving crises occurring in today's world and strategies designed to help children and adolescents deal with these events.

NURS 407 Drugs of Abuse and Mental Health Issues (3 credits)
Examines the health care needs across the lifespan of clients who have an alcohol or other drug disorder.

+NURS 504 Pharmacologic Therapy (3 credits)
Use of pharmacologic therapies in advanced practice nursing. (For more information, or to register, call 814-865-3443.)

+NURS 510 Theoretical Foundations of Nursing (3 credits)
Current conceptual and theoretical models in nursing, including the relationship to practice and research in development of nursing science. (This course is offered for credit only)

++NURS 597A Promoting Healthy Lifestyles for the School-Age Population (3 credits)
Explores prevalent health problems of school-age children in the context of a family-nurse partnership to promote healthy lifestyles.
