Certificates

Our credit and noncredit certificate programs offer you professional development opportunities in a variety of fields. Some credit certificates can be used to step up to a degree, and they provide you with a way to sample a selected subject area before making the commitment to a degree program. Others can be used as refresher courses for you to hone existing skills or develop new ones that can enhance your career, increase your value to your employer, or prepare you for a potential career change.

Certificate in Information Sciences and Technology
If you are comfortable using personal productivity software and would like to move into software development, this certificate program is for you. The four course 13-credit certificate can help you gain the skills you need for an entry-level position in the technology field. This program is also ideal for professionals needing a basic understanding of technology systems to supplement their nontechnical education backgrounds.

Certificate in Web Programing
This programming certificate covers the fundamentals of HTML and JavaScript and then teaches you how to create dynamic Web applications using PHP and MySQL—two of the standard, free, open-source technologies used worldwide.

English as a Second Language for Teachers (ESL)
ESL teachers can obtain the ESL Program Specialist Certification required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and earn Act 48 credits toward an advanced degree by enrolling in this 15-credit certificate program.

Instructional Strategies Certificate for K-12 Teachers
The certificate program in instructional strategies is designed to show teachers how to serve students better—through instructional strategies that emphasize differentiated learning techniques. Participants in this 12-credit certificate program can learn how to design new lessons based on cutting-edge instructional strategies addressing the varying levels of students.

Paralegal Certificate
If you aspire to become an important part of the exciting legal profession, a job as a paralegal may be right for you. A growing demand for paralegals means excellent job opportunities in places such as law firms, corporate legal departments, and government agencies. Today's paralegals are responsible for a broadening range of responsibilities involving the research, analysis, and preparation of legal information. Penn State's Paralegal Certificate program can give you the knowledge you need to be successful in the lucrative paralegal field.

Professional Development Program for School Nurses
As a school nurse, you can satisfy Act 48 requirements and take advanced-level credit courses at convenient times by enrolling in Penn State's new Professional Development Program for School Nurses. Offered by Penn State's School of Nursing, the five-course program is designed for public and private school nurses who need professional development courses for career advancement and enhanced earning potential.

Technology Integration Certificate for K-12 Educators for Tomorrow (TICKET)
If you are an educator in one of today's fast-paced classrooms, you need to be informed, literate, and comfortable regarding the use of technology in teaching. You can go beyond basic computer skills and learn how to use technology effectively and efficiently in your classroom and earn Act 48 credits by enrolling in this 15-credit certificate program.
