RATIONALE: Instruction and Behavior Are Linked

This course has been designed as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Act 48 Professional Development Plan.

Informal needs assessments conducted throughout Pennsylvania have indicated that both general and special educators could benefit from skill development in such areas as behavior management and explicit instruction. Both areas are critical to maintaining a quality educational environment. Behavior management skills are necessary to keep student behavior under control to facilitate learning; explicit instruction skills are necessary to facilitate content instruction in a number of areas such as reading and math.

This course will empirically validate instructional strategies that highlight the essential link between behavior and instruction. The intended audience includes general and special educators in grades K-12.
